Support & Information
Schoolhouse offers a public information service and may assist its members directly in their dealings with local authorities and other agencies (subject to available volunteer resources) if such support is requested and deemed appropriate. We are fortunate to have a longstanding relationship with the Education Law Unit of the Govan Law Centre in Glasgow, whose solicitors we are able to call upon for second tier legal advice.
Schoolhouse does not run regular groups or activities but we endeavour to signpost enquirers to independent local groups which operate formally and informally throughout Scotland. We sometimes organise seminars, conferences and other events which may be of interest to home educating families and details of these will be published on the website.
Although Schoolhouse endeavours to respond to all enquiries timeously, it should be noted that we are not always able to do so as our enquiries service is reliant on a very small number of volunteers. We would therefore ask enquirers to ensure they have read all the information on our website before contacting us.
If you hold individual or family membership of Schoolhouse, you may access the Members area of this website where you will be able to network online with other members. You may also want to follow Schoolhouse on Twitter, become a Schoolhouse Facebook fan or join the Schoolhouse Facebook group.
There are numerous email groups and online forums which offer peer support to families who are home educating or considering home education, including a dedicated Scottish home education forum within the Home Education Forums website. These groups and forums are free and easy to use.

To join the Scottish home ed forum, you will first need to register with Home Education Forums. You should then contact the forums administrator to request access to the private Scottish forum and a moderator will activate the necessary permissions.
Schoolhouse teen support network
Are you a teenager who is new to home education, or maybe just feeling a bit isolated in your choice when most young people go to school? Perhaps on the other hand you have been home educated for a while and can pass on some tips, e.g. how to deal with the ‘what about exams?’, ‘don’t you have any friends?’, ‘it must be terrible being stuck at home all the time’ (just as if, eh?), ‘not at school today’ comments.
For you we have set up the Schoolhouse Teens email group.
