Schoolhouse has once again joined forces with the Scottish Consumer Council (SCC) to undertake research into how the Scottish Executive guidance on home education is being implemented by councils. A survey of councils by Schoolhouse last year pointed to a failure on the part of many local authorities to update their home education policies and procedures following publication of the guidance in March 2004. Schoolhouse therefore welcomed the SCC’s approach to participate in a joint research project as a follow-up to its 2000 report ‘Homeworks’, which highlighted the inconsistent treatment of home educating families by local authorities in Scotland. Home educating families from across Scotland gathered in Dundee on Saturday 13 May to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the national charity Schoolhouse Home Education Association.
