Home schooling <sic> This content is inaccurate and appears to relate to English law. In Scotland, there is no ‘National Curriculum’ and written notification is not sufficient to withdraw a child from a council school.

Standard letter to parent request for update of home education provision (March 2011)
Standard letter to parent acknowledgement of updated provision (April 2011)
Standard letter to parent request for update of home education provision (Feb 2012) containing misleading information. Local authorities do not grant permission for home education, their consent is required only to withdraw a child from a council school and their limited role thereafter is outlined in Scottish Government guidance.

Comments:
23 February 2012: Information about Fife Council’s new home education policy and procedures received from parent expressing concerns about inaccuracies on website and in standard letters.
4 April 2010: Current information for parents received from Fife Council.
31 March 2010: Response from Fife Council – “Fife Council Education Service is currently revising the whole policy suite for ‘Out of School Education’ and Home Education forms part of this group. As these policies are currently ‘draft’ they are not available on our website Fife Direct. As soon as the revision is complete, it will be put on the website and we will forward the url link to you. For your information.”
17 March 2010: Request for updated information sent to Fife Council who are treating the enquiry as an FOIA request. So parents wishing to find out about home education in Fife are presumably also obliged to use the FOI Act to access what should be publicly available information!
November 2009: Still no information at all on home education on the Fife Council website. Unsatisfactory.
September 2009: Schoolhouse was made aware of inaccurate information being sent to a parent seeking to withdraw her children f rom school. The situation was resolved, but copies of correspondence have been retained for reference.
