March 2010: Concern expressed by a home educator that this council’s information is not entirely accurate, e.g. “Two members of the Education Department will meet with you and your child to discuss the planned arrangements to educate your child and to prepare a report for the Director of Education.” The Scottish Government’s statutory guidance indicates no requirement for you and/or your child to meet with the local authority.
November 2009: Comments from a service user: “We had absolutely no problems with Angus Council when removing A from school in 2005. We are in contact with several council departments regarding B who has special needs and we have been wholly supported and respected in our decision to home educate. We did feel a little pressure to find nursery provision but have stood our ground and been given advice on financial entitlement for our child to attend a forest kindergarten. We do believe that the information given to us in the past and present on home education has been correct and accepted as not only our right but an admirable and wise decision.”
